It is important that software is kept up to date. Microsoft, regularly release security updates for their Operating Systems, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 are examples of operating systems. The operating system, is to software that brings everything together and makes your computer do what you want it to do. When you turn on your computer, you are waiting for the operating system to load. Hackers will try to identify flaws or gaps within the systems to install viruses or spyware that can ause problems, slow you machine down or steal your information, and it’s in a fight against this that security release are made.
Turning on Windows updates (Windows 8)
- Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the bottom-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.
Tap or click Choose how updates are installed.
Under Important updates, choose the option that you want.
Under Recommended updates, tick the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates checkbox.
Under Microsoft Update, tick the Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows checkbox, then tap or click Apply.
